Delaware County Sex Offender Checks
The New York State Sex Offender Registry is maintained by the Division of Criminal Justice Services. Its public online Subdirectory includes Level 2 and Level 3 registrants. It does not provide a public browse of Level 1 registrations. For Delaware County, the official state portal is therefore the first online channel, and its limits must remain part of any interpretation.
The Delaware County Sheriff can address local registration and compliance questions at 280 Phoebe Lane in Delhi, and the police agency with jurisdiction over an address may also have a role. The reviewed Delaware County source does not publish a separate registry appointment schedule, local map, fee, or email-alert service. DCJS remains the authoritative public search. The National Sex Offender Public Website adds a cross-state layer when a search should extend beyond New York.
One-Field Delaware County Registry Search
The state form directs Delaware County users to choose one primary search field: last name, county, or ZIP code. Entering all three is not the method the interface describes. A county search can scan public Level 2 and Level 3 profiles across Delaware County. A Delaware County ZIP search is narrower, while a surname search follows a known person.
Optional checkboxes can exclude people shown as incarcerated, in federal immigration custody, or otherwise in custody. CAPTCHA completion is required before submission. The located form does not offer a street-address radius tool. Do not expect a one-mile or five-mile map search that New York does not provide. Address data can also change, so an old saved result should be checked against the live DCJS record.
Search scope: A Delaware County no-result screen covers the public Level 2 and Level 3 Subdirectory, not every Level 1 registration.
New York State Sex Offender Registry Searches
Open the New York State Sex Offender Registry public Subdirectory and read its conditions of use before searching. Choose the field that best matches the safety question. The result list can then lead to available public profiles.
- Select last name, county, or ZIP code as the single primary search route.
- Choose Delaware for a county-wide result, or enter a New York ZIP or surname instead.
- Set any custody-exclusion checkboxes, complete CAPTCHA, and submit the search acknowledgment.
- Review possible matches carefully, then open the official profile for risk level, status, address, and offense information shown.
| Field label | Type | Required | Format note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | One of three | Surname route |
| County | Dropdown | One of three | Select Delaware |
| Zip Code | Text | One of three | New York ZIP route |
| Exclude Incarcerated | Checkbox | No | Removes incarcerated results |
| Exclude ICE Custody | Checkbox | No | Removes immigration-custody results |
| Exclude In Custody | Checkbox | No | Removes other custody results |
| CAPTCHA | Checkbox | Yes | Complete before search |
Search results should be matched through the state profile itself. A similar name alone is not enough to identify the correct Delaware County registry record.
Delaware County Level 1 Registry Verification
Delaware County Level 1 registrants are not publicly browsable through the online Subdirectory. DCJS provides a telephone verification channel at 800-262-3257 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. The caller must give a name plus an exact address, date of birth, driver's-license number, or Social Security number. The service answers whether the specified Delaware County person is registered.
This is a narrow verification process, not a county list and not authority to collect or republish private identifiers. A blank Delaware County online search therefore cannot be described as proof that no Level 1 registration exists. Use the phone channel only when the required identifying data is lawfully available and a specific verification is needed. The public Level 2 and Level 3 portal remains the proper broad online route.
Note: Level 1 status changes the disclosure channel, not the duty to comply with New York registration law.
Registry Profiles: What They Show
DCJS describes Delaware County registry profiles as identity, address, risk, status, and registerable-conviction records. A Delaware County profile may show more than one photograph, aliases, physical traits, and home or work addresses when applicable. Fields can vary by profile, so the general registry description should not be turned into a promise that every Delaware County record contains the same details.
| Name and aliases | Identifies the registered person and reported alternate names. |
|---|---|
| Photos and physical description | Supports careful identity matching with state-published images and traits. |
| Address information | May show home and/or work address data where public and applicable. |
| Offense information | Lists registerable conviction information available for the profile. |
| Risk level and designation | Shows the judicially assigned level and any separate statutory designation. |
| Registration status | Provides status details released through the official public record. |
The official description does not guarantee vehicle, school, victim-age, tattoo, or other fields on each Delaware County result.
Delaware County Registry: ZIP or NSOPW
A Delaware County selection is the broadest in-state geographic choice on the New York form. A Delaware County ZIP code can focus on a smaller postal area, but the interface has no street-radius field. Last name is useful when the identity is known. Each route still covers only public profiles allowed in the New York Subdirectory.
The National Sex Offender Public Website, operated by the U.S. Department of Justice, can add public registry results from other participating jurisdictions. It is useful when a safety search crosses state lines, but it does not expand New York's Level 1 online disclosure. When two sources differ, return to DCJS for the current New York profile and contact the agency with jurisdiction over the address for a local compliance issue.
Registration Levels and Duties in New York
A judge assigns New York's risk level after a hearing and separately decides whether a statutory designation applies. Level 1 means low risk of repeat offense, Level 2 means moderate risk, and Level 3 means high risk and a threat to public safety. Risk level affects public visibility and registration duties, but it does not predict that a new offense will occur.
| Risk level | Without special designation | With qualifying designation | Photo update |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | 20 years | Life | Every three years |
| Level 2 | Life; petition may be available after 30 years | Life | Every three years |
| Level 3 | Life | Life | Every year |
Level 3 registrants and designated sexual predators personally verify their address every 90 days with the police agency having jurisdiction. The official DCJS risk-level explanation provides the current statewide definitions.
Delaware County Registry Address Verification
Address checks depend on the registrant's level and designation. Level 3 registrants and designated sexual predators must personally verify their address every 90 days with the police agency that has jurisdiction. Level 1 and Level 2 photographs update every three years, while Level 3 photographs update yearly. Those schedules explain why profile dates and images should be read carefully.
For a Delaware County registration or compliance question, contact the Sheriff at 280 Phoebe Lane, Delhi, NY 13753, 607-832-5555, or the police department with jurisdiction over the address. Official local contacts include Delhi Police, Walton Police, and Sidney Police. No separate county registration-unit schedule or appointment fee was published in the reviewed official source. Call before visiting. The state registry remains the public record source; the local agency handles jurisdiction-specific registration and compliance work.
Report Delaware County Registry Noncompliance
Suspected noncompliance should be reported to law enforcement, not handled through personal contact. Use the Delaware County Sheriff or the police agency that serves the address. Provide the official profile, observed fact, time, and location without confronting the person, entering private property, or broadcasting unverified claims. Emergencies go to 911.
Only law enforcement and the courts can determine whether a registration duty was breached. A moved address, old screenshot, or search mismatch can have more than one explanation. Preserve the state record link and let the responsible agency check the facts. This approach protects community safety while avoiding harassment, retaliation, and false public claims.
Using Registry Information Lawfully
Registry information supports personal, family, and community awareness. It should be used to understand an official public profile, plan lawful safety steps, and communicate specific concerns to the responsible agency. Inclusion follows a statutory conviction, registration, and risk-classification process. It is not a forecast that a person will commit a new offense.
Misuse is prohibited: New York's Correction Law Article 6-C and the DCJS warning prohibit using registry data to harass, threaten, intimidate, trespass, retaliate, or commit an unlawful discriminatory act. Misuse can carry criminal or civil consequences.
Do not republish a private person's profile. Address and status data can change, so verify through DCJS before relying on a saved result. If a Delaware County lookup raises a compliance concern, give it to the Sheriff or local police rather than contacting the registrant or household.
